About me

Hi there, I’m Lia Johnson,
An Accredited Exercise Physiologist and the founder of Strength for Life

My journey with movement began in my 30s when I discovered trail running. That first step opened the door to multi-sport racing, ultra-running, mountain biking, paddling, and orienteering. I’ve loved the challenge, the friendships, and the joy of seeing what the body is capable of.

At age 50, I changed careers to follow my passion for exercise. I became a Strength & Conditioning coach, then returned to University to complete a Bachelor of Sport & Exercise Science at James Cook University, and then obtained a Masters of Clinical Exercise Physiology.

Along the way, I’ve worked in clinical environments supporting people with chronic conditions and mental health challenges. My own maturity and life experience give me a unique perspective: I know that staying strong is about more than muscles — it’s about confidence, independence, and enjoying life.

“You don’t have to be perfect at something to give it a go. What matters is showing up, learning as you go, and having mates who get your kind of crazy.”

About the Studio

3/36 Primrose Street, Belgian Gardens

Conveniently located at the beachy-vibe Bayside Precinct (next to not one but two coffee shops) with ample parking onsite, the studio is an easy walk to the city or the beach.

The Bayside Precinct

Not a gym person?

You will be pleased to know that the studio is not a ‘gym-vibe’ space. With lots of natural light, plants and bright colours the space is welcoming, friendly and supportive. The music is upbeat and I take requests .. if you’re nice to me lol.

As we are just a short stroll from the beautiful Soroptimist Park at Rowes Bay, walking trails such as Jacobs Ladder and Castle Hill, some classes will take advantage of the sea air and training outside.
